Adding line breaks in WordPress

I was working on my blog/website and becoming increasingly annoyed with the fact that WordPress in their wisdom removes all paragraph tags and line breaks and makes it very difficult to make your entries appear the way you had imagined. After a bit of googling and a lot of reading i stumbled upon this little trick. instead of using “/br” or “/p” use “<br clear=”none” />” It seems that WP only strips out the empty tags but if you add some text into them they are not stripped out.

A simple adjustment to the way i write rather than tweaking the PHP file or playing with stylesheets, which is nice in my opinion and i won’t have to remember what i hacked or tweaked whenever i do a WP update.

I was excited to see this, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work with sites hosted on WordPress.com. I still haven’t found any way to put a simple line break there, which is pretty ridiculous. I’ve resorted to fancy HTML to put borders around pictures… it recognizes that just fine, but fails to recognize a simple br or p. Dumb.
